Diploma Centre LLM courses open for applications
The Law Society Diploma Centre is now accepting applications for the autumn intake of its two LLM programmes – Advanced Legal Practice and Employment Law in Practice.
The one-year courses, delivered in partnership with Leeds Law School at Leeds Beckett University, are designed specifically for solicitors and trainee solicitors with a view to delivering academic and personal results including:
- Critical thinking,
- Research skills,
- Writing skills, and
- Confidence and resilience.
LLM Advanced Legal Practice
The LLM Advanced Legal Practice is a research-based course that upgrades solicitor training to a master’s qualification.
Solicitor qualification or training provides 120 of the 180 credits required for the LLM, and the remaining 60 credits are obtained by undertaking a research-based thesis on a legal topic of choice.
This one-year, research-based course starts on 12 September and will also be offered in spring 2027.
Ronan Deasy (principal solicitor at Ronan Deasy Solicitors) said that the LLM had raised his professional profile, created opportunities, and given his career "a tremendous boost”.
LLM Employment Law in Practice
The LLM in Employment Law offers a direct progression route from the Diploma Centre’s Diploma in Employment Law.
Successful completion of the diploma means automatic eligibility for the LLM and provides 120 of the 180 credits required for the LLM.
Joseph Walshe (trainee solicitor, William Fry LLP) said that the course had had a "tangible impact" on his professional abilities, praising in particular the writing skills he had developed.
The LLM in Employment Law also starts on 12 September.
