A large data breach case against British Airways (BA) has been settled for an undisclosed sum.
Over 16,000 people joined a case against the airline after a breach of its security systems leading to 420,000 customers and staff having their personal data leaked, including names, debit and credit card numbers, addresses and email addresses.
Global practice PGMBM took an opt-in group action for the data breach. The resolution does not include any admission of liability.
PGMBM chairman Harris Pogust said: “The UK Information Commissioner’s Office laid out how BA did not take adequate measures to keep its passengers’ personal and financial information secure. However, this did not provide redress to those affected. This settlement now addresses that.”
BA said: “We apologised to customers who may have been affected by this issue and are pleased we've been able to settle the group action. When the issue arose, we acted promptly to protect and inform our customers.”
