Matheson names Thornton head of tax
Matheson LLP has named partner Gerry Thornton as head of tax, succeeding Shane Hogan in the position.
Hogan was recently named managing partner, in succession to Darren Maher, who took over from Michael Jackson in January 2026.
Tax partner
Thornton has been a partner in Matheson's tax department since 2011 and advises on all aspects of corporate tax, serving on the tax steering committee of public-private body Irish Funds.
Hogan said that Thornton was an exceptional advisor with deep technical expertise.
Gerry Thornton has a law degree from Trinity College Dublin and is a member of both the Law Society and the Irish Taxation Institute.
