Ireland and EU – the opportunity for influence
The Law Society EU & International Affairs Committee will hold a seminar this autumn.
Entitled ‘Ireland and the EU – An Opportunity for Influence’ the discussion will examine threats to the rule of law and adopting a common sense approach to tech regulation.
The seminar will be held on Tuesday, 22 September and the location is the Presidents’ Hall in Blackhall Place, at 1 pm.
Law Society president Rosemarie Loftus will give a welcome address at 1.30 pm, followed by an introduction by Law Society Director General Mark Garrett.
The keynote address will be from Judge Nicolas Guillou of the International Criminal Court.
Panellists include:
- Liam Herrick (chief commissioner, Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission),
- Noeline Blackwell (solicitor specialising in human rights),
- Cormac Little SC (partner at William Fry).
Keynote
This will be followed by a keynote address by Professor Teresa Rodríguez de las Heras Ballell (President of the European Law Institute).
A second panel discussion will also hear from:
- Niamh Hodnett (solicitor and Commissioner of ComReg),
- Mark Cockerill (president of American Chamber of Commerce Ireland).
That discussion, on balancing rights of the individual with freedom of business, will be chaired by Paul Keane (consultant, Reddy Charlton LLP), pictured.
The event will be followed by a reception in the Blue Room.
