Apartments lead surge in planning permissions
Official figures show that the number of homes granted planning permission jumped by 60% in the second quarter (Q2) of this year compared with the same period in 2025.
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) said that 11,912 homes were approved in the three-month period to the end of June – up from 7,447 a year earlier and the highest quarterly figure since late 2021.
The figures represent a strong recovery after the slight annual drop recorded in the first quarter.
The number of apartments receiving permission more than doubled to 5,637, while the figure for houses increased by almost 33% to 6,275.
Apartments dominate in Dublin
Of the houses granted permission, 5,046 were in schemes – an increase of 41.% compared with a year earlier.
Overall, the figures show that houses accounted for 53% of all homes granted planning permission, with apartments making up 47% of the total.
Dublin, which accounted for just over a quarter of all homes granted permission during the period, saw a 78.5% surge in the number of units approved.
Apartments accounted for 2,412 of the homes approved in the capital, with 829 houses given permission. These figures represented increases of 96% and 42%, respectively.
