LSPT courses to focus on non-technical areas

Law Society Professional Training (LSPT) has given details of several upcoming training courses that aim to provide lawyers with the non-technical skills that are becoming increasingly important in modern legal practice.

The courses, supported by Law Society Skillnet, cover areas such as communication, resilience, emotional intelligence, time-management, and adaptability.

LSPT says that the series of practical and engaging CPD training sessions and workshops are delivered by highly experienced trainers and industry experts and are designed for lawyers and legal professionals working in modern, fast-paced environments.

Stronger communication

The sessions are designed to provide practical, immediately applicable skills that support stronger communication, better decision-making, improved resilience, and greater professional effectiveness in legal practice.

Lawyers and legal professionals are encouraged to book early to secure places.

The courses available are:

Dealing with High-Conflict Personalities, with Henry Hely Hutchinson (trainer specialising in professional skills for lawyers).

This practical course explores how lawyers can manage difficult conversations, handle conflict effectively, and use ethical persuasion techniques in legal settings.

Participants will gain practical strategies for communication, negotiation and stakeholder management.

The course takes place In-person at the Law Society on Thursday 21 May (9.30am to 1pm).

Emotional Intelligence for Lawyers, with Henry Hely Hutchinson, trainer specialising in professional skills for lawyers.

Emotional intelligence plays a key role in communication, leadership, and client relationships.

This course helps participants develop greater self-awareness, relationship management, and practical emotional-intelligence skills for the legal workplace.

The course is live online via a Zoom webinar on Wednesday 3 June (1pm to 2.30pm).

Managing Change in the Era of AI, with Henry Hely Hutchinson, trainer specialising in professional skills for lawyers.

As AI and other developments reshape the legal sector, this course helps lawyers understand change, manage resistance, and develop practical strategies for adapting successfully.

It takes place in-person at the Law Society on Thursday 4 June (10am to 1pm).

Time Management for Lawyers, with Henry Hely Hutchinson, trainer specialising in professional skills for lawyers.

This session focuses on prioritisation, productivity, stress management, and practical techniques to improve efficiency in modern legal practice.

Risk and Resilience, with Walter W Bardenwerper, international expert in legal risk management and corporate governance.

This interactive seminar explores how solicitors can better understand, assess, and communicate risk in an evolving legal and business environment – including emerging risks such as AI and cyber threats.

It takes place in-person at the Law Society on Thursday 4 June (10am to 3pm).

Speed Reading for Legal Professionals, with Rachel Owens, trainer specialising in practical professional and communication skills.

This workshop introduces practical speed-reading techniques to help legal professionals process large volumes of written material more efficiently, while maintaining focus and comprehension.

It takes place live online via Zoom webinar on Tuesday 16 June (10am to 1pm).

Decision-Making Under Pressure: Imposter Syndrome and Hidden Cognitive Strain, with Jason McDaid, founder of The 78% Club, specialising in decision-making under pressure.

This workshop examines how internal pressure, self-doubt, and cognitive strain can affect professional judgement and decision-making, while providing practical techniques to improve clarity and confidence under pressure.

It is live online via Zoom webinar on Wednesday 17 June (10am to 12pm).
