DSBA seminar to examine ADM act impact

The Dublin Solicitors Bar Association (DSBA) will hold a seminar exploring the impact of the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015 after three years of operation. 

The event will take place on Thursday 21 May at the offices of Byrne Wallace Shields LLP, 88 Harcourt St, Dublin 2. 

President of the High Court Mr Justice David Barniville will deliver opening remarks.

The speakers and topics are: 

  • Áine Hynes SC (partner, St John Solicitors and chair of the Law Society Mental Health Law and Capacity Taskforce) will provide updates for practitioners and speak about the role of the DMR (decision-making representative),
  • Áine Flynn (director of the Decision Support Service) will provide insights and updates on the service and its functions,
  • Marie-Claire Butler (general solicitor for minors and wards of court) will speak about discharge from wardship, and
  • Olive Doyle and Patrick McClean (partners at Byrne Wallace Shields) will examine case law in the area. 

There will also be observations and suggestions on areas for improvement, as well as a question-and-answer session.
