Midlands update to open cluster programme

Law Society Skillnet’s regional CPD cluster programme for 2026 will start with the Midlands General Practice Update later this month.  

The event will take place at the Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise, Co Laois on Thursday 16 April (10am to 5.30pm). 

Attendance will yield a total of six CPD hours by group study.

The conference will provide an opportunity for practitioners to update their knowledge in areas of law relevant to general practice. 

There will also be an opportunity to network with colleagues over lunch and an evening drinks reception. 

Update on assisted decision-making 

Topics to be covered include: 

  • Recent developments in conveyancing,
  • Will-drafting and estate-planning for the modern family,
  • Capital Acquisition Tax – common errors and pitfalls,
  • Unincorporated bodies (clubs, trusts, and charities),
  • Resilience – handling stress and burnout,
  • Assisted decision-making – an update, and
  • A guide to civil restraining orders.  

Speakers include: 

  • Tony Collier (partner, Ferrys Solicitors LLP),
  • Padraic Courtney (solicitor, secretary to Law Society Probate and Trusts Committee),
  • Áine Hynes SC (partner, St John Solicitors, Dublin, chair of Mental Health and Capacity Task Force, and member of Litigation Committee),
  • Paul Keane (solicitor, chair and consultant, Reddy Charlton LLP, member of Law Society Council, Finance Committee, and Business Law Committee),
  • Deborah Leonard (solicitor, secretary to Conveyancing Committee),
  • Tom O’Connell (Revenue), and
  • Sinéad Turner (solicitor, life coach, The Mindset Method).
