Two judges nominated to Supreme Court

Mr Justice Brian O’Moore and Ms Justice Niamh Hyland of the Court of Appeal have been nominated for appointment to the Supreme Court.

The vacancies in the Supreme Court arise following the retirement of Ms Justice Elizabeth Dunne this week and the scheduled retirement of Mr Justice Peter Charleton on 11 April.

Mr Justice Brian O’Moore

  • Educated at Trinity College Dublin,
  • Called to Bar in 1984,
  • Called to Inner Bar in 1999,
  • Appointed to High Court on 2 December 2019,
  • Appointed to Court of Appeal on 23 October 2023. 

Ms Justice Niamh Hyland

  • Educated: Trinity College Dublin, Magdalen College Oxford, King’s Inns,
  • Called to Bar in 1994,
  • Called to Inner Bar in 2012,
  • Former member of board of Rehab, director of Open Spectrum CLG, former member of Bar Council, former board member of Irish Commercial Mediation Association,
  • Appointed to High Court on 2 December 2019,
  • Appointed to Court of Appeal on 3 October 2024.
