Death of Kerry solicitor June O’Connell

The death has been announced of solicitor and businesswoman June O’Connell, a former William Fry partner. 

Her death notice said that she had died peacefully in Dublin. 

A native of Cahirsiveen, Co Kerry, she spent 25 years as a lawyer in Dublin before moving to the Ring of Kerry to set up the Skellig Six18 distillery on the Ring of Kerry, along with her husband Patrick Cooney. 

The distillery, on the premises of the former Wilson sock factory at the west end of Cahersiveen, makes premium spirits, such as craft gin and pot still whiskey. 

‘Sorely missed’ 

Paying tribute on Radio Kerry, Fianna Fáil councillor Norma Moriarty praised June O’Connell’s “extraordinary energy”, adding that she would be “sorely missed” in south Kerry. 

She is survived by her husband, and children Seán, Sadhbh, Liam, and Cathal. 

Her funeral Mass will take place at 11am on Monday (10 August) in Daniel O’Connell Memorial Church, Cahersiveen, followed by burial at Relig Chill Fhaoláin Cemetery, Cahersiveen.
