‘Law and diplomacy’ theme of Lismullin event

Following the success of last year’s inaugural gathering on ‘Human dignity and the law’, the second Lismullin Legal Gathering will take place on 8 November 2025 at Lismullin Conference Centre, Co Meath.

This year’s theme is: ‘Law and diplomacy: bridging a fractured world’ and reflects the urgent challenges facing the international community.

In an era marked by conflict, fragmentation and geopolitical instability, the relationship between law and diplomacy is, once again, under intense scrutiny.

The day will consist of dialogue, exchange, and reflection on the intersection of law and diplomacy in the middle of today’s complex global issues.

All-island exchange

The speakers will include:

  • Luis Franceschi (keynote speaker – Assistant Secretary General of the Commonwealth),
  • John Larkin KC (former Attorney General of Northern Ireland and King’s Counsel),
  • Dr Catherine Kavanagh (Associate Professor in Philosophy at Mary Immaculate College), and
  • Dr Fearghas Ó Béara (Head of Office, European Parliament Liaison Office in Ireland).

The Lismullin Legal Gathering draws inspiration from the principles of dialogue and mutual respect and all-island exchange enshrined in the Good Friday Agreement.

Supported by legal and academic institutions and professional bodies across Ireland, North and South, the Lismullin Gathering aims to become a key forum for discourse on the pressing legal, ethical and geopolitical issues facing our society.

CPD

The event is open to legal professionals, students, academics and all those with an interest in law, diplomacy and global affairs. The seminar will count for 4.5 hours of professional development.

It will take place on Saturday 8 November, from 10am to 4.30pm at Lismullin Conference Centre, Garlow Cross, Co Meath, C15 XW40.

Arrival and coffee is at 10am, with the first presentation taking place at 10.30am.
