Event to showcase public-sector opportunities

Law Society Professional Training is to host an event later this month to highlight the opportunities open to solicitors who want to build careers in the public sector. 

The Public Sector Careers Symposium 2025 takes place on Wednesday 21 May in the Lecture Theatre at the Law Society, Blackhall Place, Dublin 7 (2pm to 4.30pm). 

The event is worth 2.5 CPD hours professional development and solicitor wellbeing (by group study). 

The symposium will also examine the most effective ways for solicitors in the public sector to progress and achieve their career goals. 

Applications and interviews 

Expert speakers will also give guidance on how to succeed in competency-based applications and interviews. 

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet officials from different public-sector organisations and to network with peers during lunch (from 1.30pm before the event) and in the atrium afterwards. 

This event is suitable for: solicitors who are already working in a public-sector organisation and solicitors who are considering a move into the public sector. 

Speakers and panellists 

The vice-chair of the Law Society’s In-house and Public Sector Committee Róisín Magee will chair the event, while Judge Peter White of the District Court will chair a panel discussion. 

The speakers and panellists are:

  • Catherine Pierse (Director of Public Prosecutions),
  • Fiona Woodyatt (deputy assistant Chief State Solicitor),
  • Margaret Kelleher (Parliamentary Counsel, Office of the Attorney General),
  • Cathal Ryan (deputy commissioner, DPC),
  • Alison Hand (head of learning and development solutions, Carr Communications), and
  • Sinéad Coleman (head of talent acquisition for the public service).
