Browne extends waiver for outdoor dining

Hotels, restaurants, and pubs serving food outdoors will not have to pay licence fees for street furniture until at least October 2026.

James Browne (Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage) said today (28 July) that he had signed regulations waiving the fees up to and including 30 September 2026.

The Planning and Development (Street Furniture Fees) Regulations 2025 cover the removal of street-furniture licence fees for “tables and chairs outside a hotel, restaurant, public house, or other establishment where food is sold for consumption on the premises”.

‘Support for hospitality sector’

Minister Browne, who had signalled in May that he intended to waive such fees for the rest of the year, said that he had decided to extend the waiver to support the hospitality, restaurant, and tourism sectors.

Licence fees are currently set at €125 per table, per year.

The regulations continue initiatives that were first put in place in 2021 during the COVID pandemic.
