Eversheds Sutherland has appointed Robert Dever and Mary Gavin as partners in its Dublin office – its first senior hires since the integration of its Irish practice into the firm’s international business in September.
The firm described the appointments as “a major milestone” in its growth strategy for Ireland and its commitment to building market-leading capabilities in key practice areas.
Tax partner Dever returns to Eversheds Sutherland after several years at Pinsent Masons, where he led the tax practice in Dublin.
He has extensive experience advising large domestic and multinational corporations on corporate-tax matters – including mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, inward investment projects, private equity, joint ventures, and cross-border tax planning.
Simon Gamlin, who heads Eversheds Sutherland’s commercial-advisory practice group, welcomed Dever’s return to the firm, describing him as “a highly trusted adviser” with an exceptional track record in navigating complex tax issues.
Gavin joins from Ogier Ireland LLP as a partner in the employment team.
With nearly two decades of experience, she advises national and multinational clients on all employment matters – including investigations, restructuring, and employment-related litigation.
Diane Gilhooley, head of the global employment practice group, praised Gavin’s “exceptional litigation and advisory experience”.
The recent integration of Eversheds Sutherland’s practices on the island of Ireland into its International business brought together 26 partners and 170 employees.
Pamel O’Neill (Dublin managing partner) said that the appointments underscored the firm’s strategic focus on Ireland as a key jurisdiction.
Alexander Niethammer (European managing partner, Eversheds Sutherland) said that Ireland continued to be “a strategically vital” jurisdiction for the firm’s clients, particularly those with cross-border operations and European headquarters.
