The competition watchdog has launched an investigation into suspected breaches of competition law by the State-owned Dublin Port Company.
In a statement, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) said that the probe concerned suspected anti-competitive practices in the provision of port infrastructure at Dublin Port and/or the provision of port-towage services at the port.
It described these services as “crucial for the safe navigation and operation of vessels, and therefore for the efficiency of trade and transport in the region”.
The competition body said that would not give any further information as the investigation was continuing.
Dublin Port Company said that it was “fully committed” to assisting the CCPC in its investigation.
