The Law Society Library has recently expanded its collection of resources on artificial intelligence (AI), an area that is expected generate much interest in the coming months and years.

The library’s latest subject guide, ‘AI and the Legal Profession’, brings together these resources, including relevant eBooks, journal articles and other external resources.

Solicitors and trainees can use the guide as a starting point for researching law and policy on artificial intelligence, with books available on AI law and regulation.

Law and policy

The ‘law and policy’ section also gives an overview of resources available on the European Commission’s approach to AI regulation and government strategies on AI from Ireland and Britain.

Further resources of interest from the library collection include books covering AI and legal services, digital transformation in law firms, and a number of ebooks on understanding the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and generative AI.

The library has also produced its own starter’s guide on AI for solicitors, 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Legal Practice'.

The guide outlines the basic concepts of AI and generative AI as well as AI policy and regulation issues. It also covers issues about the use of AI in legal education and legal research, and the risks and challenges of using AI-assisted technologies in legal practice.

Guidance

Finally, links are provided to international sources of best practice and professional guidance from law associations such as the Law Society of England and Wales and the International Bar Association.
