Diploma Centre's Legal Skills Through English

The Law Society Diploma Centre Legal Skills Through English programme is offered over five days this summer, from 8 to 12 July, at Blackhall Place.

This International Legal Excellence Programme gives participants the opportunity to improve both their English-language skills and practical legal skills through interactive lectures and workshops.

The course will allow participants to improve their fluency and confidence when communicating through English, while also providing in-depth, tailored training in the key legal skills of negotiation, client interviewing and advising, legal writing, and oral professional presentation.

Students will also develop an understanding of the common-law legal system.

In addition, the social and cultural events that form an optional part of the course are designed to allow students to connect and create a network of legal professionals based in other countries.

The course is highly practical and based on learning-by-doing. It includes interactive lectures, workshops, role-plays, performance recordings, and one-to-one feedback.

Testimonials

“The programme was varied and focused on useful skills like writing, presentation and negotiation. The social activities provided plenty of opportunities to get to know the other attendees and, of course, Dublin. Overall it was a delightful experience." – Johanna Thoelke (Rechtsanwältin, solicitor, Germany)

“The legal skills and English course hosted by the Law Society of Ireland provided an enriching experience, enhancing my legal English presentation skills significantly. The week was not only filled with invaluable learning but also offered practical advice on managing complex client interactions, which I found immensely beneficial. Additionally, the opportunity to connect with esteemed colleagues from across Europe was a highlight, fostering a sense of professional exchange that was truly remarkable." – Jiří Novák (partner at Sokol Novák TdpA, Prague, Czech Republic)
