Workshop on legal-education outreach

Law Society Skillnet is holding an interactive workshop on legal-education outreach this week.

The event, which is worth two CPD hours, takes place at Blackhall Place on Thursday 28 September (5.30-7.30pm).

It is open for registration on the Law Society website.

‘Powerful opportunity’

The Law Society describes legal-education outreach as “a powerful opportunity for law firms and members of the legal profession to help make the law more accessible, understandable, and relevant”.

The organisation has been a pioneer in promoting public legal education and developing the capacity and impact of legal professionals to deliver experiential, learner-centred programmes, such as Street Law.

A number of law firms and individual solicitors have also launched their own successful community-engagement initiatives in this area.

Aims and facilitators

The workshop will help practitioners to:

  • Design and implement legal education programmes/workshops for school students and community members that are grounded in the best practices of teaching and learning,
  • Engage, challenge and excite youngsters about complex legal issues,
  • Inspire your audience about the law, and how it is relevant to their own lives.

The facilitators are Dr Seán Arthurs (director of global education and training with EarthRights International) and John Lunney (course manager on the Professional Practice Course at the Law Society).
