Bus journeys countrywide exceed pre-virus levels

The number of bus journeys in Dublin for the week beginning 20 February was 10% higher compared with the number of journeys in the same week in 2019, new CSO data shows.

The number of bus journeys outside Dublin in the same week also exceeded 2019 figures by 31%, the transport bulletin shows. The data captures changing traffic volumes and the number of journeys taken on public transport.

However, the number of new cars licensed in February fell by 359 vehicles (-3%) compared with February 2022.

13 fatalities

There were 13 fatalities on Irish roads in February 2023, the same number as February last year, compared with 20 in January 2023.

Transport statistician Dr Nele van der Wielen said there were 13,284 new private cars and 3,986 used (imported) private cars licensed in February.

Compared with February 2022, there was a decrease of 3% for new private cars and an increase of 1% for used private cars.
