Law Society announces strategy consultation event

The Law Society’s consultation process with its stakeholders will continue with an in-person consultation event, which will be held at Blackhall Place on Wednesday 28 June.

After a successful survey of the profession, with 2,264 responses, the Society will host a gathering of solicitors to hear their views and get their contributions on the future of the profession and the Society.

“This is just another and innovative way to listen to the views of our members,” says director general Mark Garrett (small picture).

“This is essentially a large consultation event or focus group of our members, looking at the future challenges and opportunities of the profession. The output from this event will assist us in the development of our next strategy.”

Burning issues

The director general said: “Law Society committee chairs, Council members and Law School ambassadors have been invited as key representatives of the profession. We have also issued invitations to individual practising solicitors from a random selection to ensure that we get a broad perspective from the profession.”

He added: “In framing the next strategy of the Law Society, I want to hear the voices of as many solicitors as I can, using different methods. The successful survey of the profession was one – that was a quantitative element. This consultation event is an opportunity to share and hear the burning issues and priorities on solicitors’ desks – both today and looking ahead.”

Deep engagement

“In engaging deeply like this, I believe this is the best way to develop a strategy that will be fully reflective of the needs of the profession,” Mark Garrett said.

“It is a diverse and changing profession. That goes for sole practitioners, partners, in-house solicitors, and consultants. It is a good opportunity to share their views.”

Register your interest

Some places for this event are still available. These will be issued to members on a first-come, first-served basis.

Those wishing to attend may register their interest now.

This consultation event will run on Wednesday 28 June, from 6.30pm to 9pm, at Blackhall Place, Dublin.
