Almost 170 solicitors from across Waterford attended the General Practice Update Kilkenny 2023, a major legal conference that took place at Hotel Kilkenny on 23 November 2023.

The conference was organised by Law Society Skillnet in partnership with Carlow Bar Association, Kilkenny Bar Association, Waterford Law Society, and Wexford Bar Association.

President of the Waterford Law Society, Olivia McCann said: “The conference offered local solicitors a unique setting away from their busy practices to engage with colleagues and enhance their expertise in a collaborative environment.

Litigation update

“Together, the Law Society, Kilkenny Bar Association, Carlow Bar Association, Waterford Law Society, and Wexford Bar Association are dedicated to advancing the knowledge and professional growth of our legal practitioners in the public interest,” she continued.

The Waterford president said: “Litigation is not merely a process to resolve conflicts; it is the pursuit of justice and the safeguarding of rights. Local solicitors working in litigation in Ireland are committed to enhancing their legal expertise in an ever-changing, challenging, yet exciting landscape.

Probate

The event was an opportunity for attendees to hear updates in probate, which is the legal process involving the distribution of a deceased person’s property and other assets, in accordance with the terms of their will.

“It is essential for solicitors to have an enhanced knowledge of the latest developments in practice and procedure – including a critical understanding of the probate process,” explained McCann.
