Deadline for MOOC on social-media law extended

The closing date for registration for the Law Society of Ireland’s free ‘Social Media and the Law’ MOOC has been extended to 9 August.

MOOCs are Massive Open Online Courses that are free, open to all, and are part of the Law Society’s public legal-education initiative.

Offered by the Diploma Centre, they have attracted over 24,000 participants from over 85 countries since they first started in 2014

Irish and EU regulations

The courses are taught online, using recorded presentations. There are also interactive discussion forums and quizzes for participants.

This year’s MOOC will provide participants with a comprehensive guide to the key social-media issues arising in the context of changing Irish and EU regulations, together with an examination of other key social-media developments and trends.

Expert speakers, media lawyers and academics will examine topics that include online-safety legislation (Online Safety and Media Regulations Act 2022), online harassment and trolling, disinformation/fake news and child safety online.
