Average age of marriage now well into thirties
CSO data shows that the number of marriages last year was 22,555 opposite-sex marriages, with 305 male same-sex marriages, and 313 female same-sex marriages.
The average age of opposite-sex weddings was 37.4 for males and 35.4 for females.
The average age of same-sex weddings was 39.4 for males and 38.2 for females.
Most popular forms of ceremony for opposite-sex marriage were:
- Roman Catholic 9,376 (42%),
- Civil ceremonies 5,767 (26%).
Most popular day
The most popular day to wed was Friday with 7,974 ceremonies.
The least popular day to wed was Sunday with 905 marriages.
The most popular month to wed was July with 3,068 ceremonies and the least popular month was January with 558 ceremonies.
