Cross-border mediation contest at Blackhall Place

The Law Society law school hosted the Michael Peart Challenge Cup competition recently (19 May) with a strong performance by the Blackhall Place team.

The cross-border competition is a collaboration between the Law Society and the North’s Institute of Professional Legal Studies (IPLS).

The A&L Goodbody-sponsored contest promotes the value of resolving disputes through mediation and is designed to help law school trainees from both institutions to develop their mediation skills in tandem with receiving feedback from expert practitioners.

Rounds

Eight teams of four trainees each participated in two mediation rounds.

Mr Justice Michael Peart presented the cup named in his honour (Michael Peart Challenge Cup)  to the winning IPLS team, comprising:

  • Anne Kelly,
  • Holly Johnston,
  • Jamie Donnelly and,
  • Heather Alexandra.

The Blackhall Place team finished a strong second, and consisted of:

  • Sinéad Flynn (Dechert),
  • Rachel Jones (Holmes),
  • Michael O'Halloran (RDJ) and,
  • Niamh Shanahan (A&L Goodbody).

Congratulations to all involved.
