Robinson on panel for Afghanistan discussion

Mary Robinson, currently Adjunct Professor of Climate Justice at Trinity College, will be among a panel discussing issues relating to law and women in Afghanistan at an event tomorrow (14 September).

The discussion, which starts at 6.30pm, is being organised by the Irish Women Lawyers Association (IWLA).

The former President will be joined by Mary Ellen McGroarty, who is currently on the ground in Afghanistan with the World Food Programme.

Support

The other participants are Fereshta Abbasi (human rights lawyer with the British & Irish Agencies Afghanistan Group), and the current Norwegian Ambassador to Ireland Mari Skåre, who was formerly Norwegian Ambassador to Afghanistan.

The organisers say that the aim of the event is to provide support to those in need in Afghanistan – in particular women working to uphold the law in exceptionally difficult and dangerous circumstances.

The event starts at 6.30pm. Tickets are free, but donations are welcome.
