Death of District Court Judge Denis McLoughlin

The death has occurred of Judge Denis McLoughlin, who was a judge of the Cavan and Monaghan District Court. He was aged 62.

Judge McLoughlin had worked as a solicitor for 22 years, before becoming a judge in 2007.

The President of the District Court, Judge Paul Kelly, said that he was shocked and saddened by the news, describing Denis McLoughlin as a wonderful colleague.

Huge loss

"Quietly spoken, the epitome of courtesy, and compassionate, he was everything a good judge should be,” Judge Kelly said.

“He had a fine legal mind, and tempered his judgments with common sense, and a deep understanding of the human condition,” he added.

“He is a huge loss to the judiciary, the District Court and to the people of Cavan and Monaghan, whom he served with diligence and skill,” the District Court President said.
