Construction adjudication role for solicitor

Solicitor Bernard Gogarty (pictured) has been appointed as the new chair of the Ministerial Panel of Adjudicators under the Construction Contracts Act 2013.

The appointment was announced by the Damien English (Minister of State for Business, Employment and Retail) yesterday (1 July).

Mr Gogarty, who has been a member of the panel since 2015, takes over from Dr Nael Bunni.

Law Society role

The panel appoints adjudicators to settle disputes between parties involved in construction contracts, in cases where the parties themselves cannot agree on an adjudicator.

Mr Gogarty, who qualified as a solicitor in Ireland in 1979 and in Northern Ireland in 1992, has been a partner with Smyth & Son solicitors since 1984.

He has extensive experience in conveyancing, litigation, construction law and commercial arbitration.

Mr Gogarty was also a member of the Law Society's Arbitration Committee for many years, and remains involved as a consultant.
