The Drug Treatment Court (DTC) provided a restorative justice alternative to a custodial sentence to 99 participants in 2019.
The system is suitable for drug addicts who have pleaded guilty before, or have been convicted by, the District Court for minor, non-violent criminal charges connected to their addiction.
The programme comprises of three stages – bronze, silver and gold. 10 participants graduated at the gold level during the year.
This indicates that they have completed all stages of the programme, are not using any non-prescribed drugs and are either working or enrolled on a course.
At year end, there were 33 participants in the bronze phase, nine in the silver phase and four in the gold phase.
