Deadline for submissions on personal injuries paper

LRC deadline for personal injuries submissions

The Law Reform Commission (LRC) has issued a reminder that the closing date for submissions on its Issues Paper on capping damages in personal injuries claims is close of business on Friday 6 March.

The date was extended due to the high level of interest in the paper, which looks at whether legislation to cap some or all categories of personal injuries cases would be constitutionally permissible. The LRC paper sets out four possible models for such a system.

Costs

The work of the LRC comes amid concerns and debate about the costs of motor and other types of insurance in Ireland.

Issues Papers are circulated to members of the legal professions and other professional groups with a specialist knowledge of a particular topic.

Seminar

The LRC usually holds a seminar involving those who have made submissions, and other interested parties, before drafting its final report on an issue.

The LRC points out that submissions may be disclosed in response to requests under the Freedom of Information Act 2014. It advises those making submissions that they should clearly identify any material they do not want to be made public as confidential.

Submissions on this paper can be emailed to p5p2@lawreform.ie or posted to the LRC at Styne House, Upper Hatch Street, Dublin 2.
