The Courts Service has said that 14,000 fines’ enforcement notices were recently issued with a wrong fine date printed on them.
Of the 14,000 incorrectly-dated notices, almost 6,000 do not need to be rescheduled. The court date included was correct in all cases.
Immediate action was taken so as not to impact on court hearings and the legal process and relevant members of the judiciary were notified.
For cases which required rescheduling, to ensure all necessary time-lines are complied with, a letter has issued cancelling the original court date.
Those concerned have also been notified that a new fines’ notice and court date will issue in due course.
Every court office was also contacted with instructions in relation to the matter.
Having taken this immediate remedial action, the Courts Service said it is not aware of any court orders made that would adversely affect respondents who received the incorrectly dated fines’ enforcement notices.
