The Supreme Court is to sit in both Kilkenny and Waterford for the first time ever, during the upcoming Hilary term. The dates have yet to be finalised but will be during the month of February.
The Supreme Court will sit in Waterford for two days and Kilkenny for one day. Cases are already listed for those dates.
Chief Justice Frank Clarke made the announcement at the Mayo Solicitors’ Bar Association annual dinner in Castlebar at the weekend.
The Chief Justice also pledged that the Supreme Court would visit the West and North-West, and sit in both Castlebar, Co Mayo, and Letterkenny, Co Donegal, in February or March of 2021.
Last month, a High Court sitting in Kilkenny was cancelled due to a shortage of judges.
This will be the fourth time the Supreme Court has sat outside of Dublin, following forays into Cork, Limerick and Galway, in March this year.
In Galway, the Supreme Court sat at the Aula Maxima in NUI Galway (pictured above), which was the first time ever that the court sat outside of a courtroom.
