On Tuesday 25 June, Attorney General Séamus Woulfe will speak about his role as legal adviser to the Government and chief law officer of the State.
Iran hostage crisis
Justice Peter Charleton of the Supreme Court Judge will deliver a lecture entitled The Iran Hostage Crisis: 444 Days that ruined a Presidency.
The trial and conduct of personal injuries litigation will be the focus of the lecture to be delivered by Justice Bronagh O’Hanlon of the High Court on Tuesday 2 July.
Justice Deirdre Murphy will discuss the role and responsibility of the State in litigation during her lecture on Thursday 4 July.
With the stunning backdrop of Sir John Lavery’s revered painting High Treason, the trial of Roger Casement will be brought to life by Justice Dónal O’Donnell.
This lecture will take place at the Bar Room of the Honorable Society of King’s Inns, Henrietta Street on Tuesday 9 July at the slightly later start time of 4:30 pm.
Art of advocacy
The Hardiman Lecture Series for 2019 will conclude on Thursday 11 July with senior counsel Michael Collins delivering a lecture titled The Art of Advocacy.
One CPD point is available per lecture and the lecture series is open to practitioners and the wider legal community.
The venue for each lecture, except where otherwise stated, is Court two off the Round Hall in the Four Courts and each talk will commence at 4:15 pm.
Open to all staff
Lectures are open to all judges and all court staff with particular emphasis on judges.
A question and answer session will follow each lecture. Chatham House rules will apply; matters can be discussed inside the room but not repeated outside it.

Named in honour
The Hardiman Lecture Series was named in honour of the late Justice Adrian Hardiman (pictured) in 2016, following his sudden death on 7 March that year.
Justice Hardiman was an enthusiastic participant each year on the lecture series from its inception in 2013.
The series forms a key element of the Chief Justice’s summer internship programme for law students which was initiated in 2013 by then Chief Justice Susan Denham.
Each year, during the Trinity legal term, the Chief Justice hosts students on a one-month internship programme for two students from each of the seven Irish universities.
There is an international element to the programme, with four students from Fordham University, New York, two students from Bangor University, Wales and, for the first time last year, two students from the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
22 students
A total of 22 students participate in the programme. The students typically attend court with the judge to whom they are assigned to observe court proceedings and undertake some work such as small research projects, proof-reading and memorandum writing.
Other elements of the programme include the excellent lecture series, various tours and court visits.
A new addition to the 2019 programme includes a dedicated day at the Criminal Courts of Justice, meeting legal professionals, together with representatives of the various State bodies that are involved in the criminal justice sphere.
