A blind man has won £50,000 compensation after a surveyor failed to tell him about Japanese knotweed at a £1.2 million property.
Paul Ryb, 49, asked Conways Chartered Surveyors to comprehensively survey his proposed purchase as he could not see to inspect the property himself.
The surveyors failed to spot the “visibly present and growing”, knotweed and told Ryb the property was in excellent condition internally and externally.
Mayor’s and City of London county court made the award to the former financier, who lost his sight due to macular degeneration in 2007. He has since become a tennis champion representing Britain at an International Blind Tennis tournament.
