LawInSport will hold its second sports law conference in Dublin next month, following the sold-out success of its inaugural event last March.

In conjunction with the Sports Law Bar Association (SLBA) of Ireland, the event is expected to attract barristers, solicitors, in-house counsel and academics from both north and south.

Professionals outside of the law who work in a sporting environment are also expected to attend the one-day conference at The Atrium, Distillery Building, 145-151 Church Street. 

Mixed martial arts

The SLBA is an all-Ireland association of barristers with specialist sports law knowledge and practices.

The association has been incorporated with David Barniville SC (chairman), Paul McGarry SC (vice-chairman), Tim O’Connor (treasurer) and Robert McTernaghan (secretary).

McTernaghan is currently serving a three-year term on the Sport Resolutions’ Panel of Arbitrators and Mediators. 

The one-day conference in was address topics such as: 

• Has the eSports industry finally matured?
• Regulating mixed martial arts and athlete welfare,
• Changes to the sport-betting industry, and the impact of the Independent Tennis Integrity Report,
• Sports media rights – new distribution methods and competition law. 

The full speaker panel will be announced shortly, with University of Melbourne Professor of Sports Law, Jack Anderson, confirmed to address the conference. Professor Anderson formerly lectured at the University of Limerick.

Professionals outside of the law who work in a sporting environment are also welcome to attend.

SLBA chair Paul McGarry said: “As a new and dynamic sports law association, we are delighted at this early stage to be working in partnership with LawInSport to deliver what we consider will be a cutting-edge sports law conference, attractive to both Irish and international lawyers and members of the sports industry.”

Tickets are €150 for non-members, and €100 for members of the SLBA.
