Crisper remote video link to witnesses will result from an upgrade to HDMI cabling at the Criminal Courts of Justice, the Courts Service reports.
The Dublin 7 building opened in 2009 with old hat cabling video link systems that required signal boosts to work properly with frequent and frustrating breakdowns in transmission.
That system has now reached an end of its natural life as maintenance contracts expire and manufacturers cease to support the outdated technology.
“The image and sound quality of the new technology is far sharper and much more reliable,” the Courts Service promises.
Space freed up
The CCJ witness rooms systems now connect to 14 courts countrywide. The new system fits into the available spaces already allocated in each courtroom, freeing up space in the CCJ communications rooms.
As other witness rooms around the country are upgraded, they too can be used to transmit from a witness room to the CCJ.
This will be especially useful when supporting vulnerable witnesses and victims of crime, the Courts Service believes.
