Eleven barristers have been granted Patents of Precedence entitling them to admission to the Inner Bar.

The date for admittance will be fixed by the Chief Justice.
An advisory committee consisting of the Chief Justice, the President of the High Court, the Attorney General and the Chair of the Bar Council makes recommendations to the Government concerning the grant of Patents of Precedence.
In future a new advisory committee will deal with this work once it is established by the Legal Services Regulatory Authority. The new advisory committee will include the President of the Law Society and a lay member of the Authority.
Under the new body solicitors as well as barristers will be able to apply for a Patent of Precedence: at present only barristers may do so.
