Oktoberfest

The first event organised by the 2023 PPC Connect Committee took place on 12 October 2023 in Eatyard in the Bernard Shaw. With the support of Eatyard, over 180 Blackhall students gathered to share in the Bavarian festivities, enjoying a range of German beer and snacks as well as testing their strength in Stein holding competitions.

Bake Sale

In the build-up to one of the biggest Blackhall events, Strictly Blackhall, the Dance Society held a bake sale in the Atrium on 19 October 2023. The stand was stocked with sweet treats baked by the students and all proceeds went towards supporting the Strictly Blackhall charities, Barretstown and the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.

Table Quiz

The PPC Connect Committee held a table quiz in support of Strictly Blackhall charities on 24 October 2023 in the Vanilla Cafe. With questions written by the committee members, over 80 students in a total of 17 teams were tested on their knowledge, ranging from sports to pop culture, for a chance to win coveted tickets to the Blackhall Halloween party and enjoy some well earned drinks from the student bar.

Sports Day

Blessed with a sunny day, Sports Day took place on the green on 25 October 2023. Bringing nostalgic games from primary school days back in full force, students participated in a range of singles events from egg and spoon to a good ol’ welly toss, ending with a bang with an egg toss. Team tournaments were held in the evening with teams competing in five a side and tag rugby

Blackhall Halloween

The annual Blackhall Halloween Party took place in the Church Café on 31 October 2023 with all those attending dressed in their best costume from heroic favourites to being Kenough. Over 350 students enjoyed sweet treats and tunes throughout the night with the PPC Connect Committee holding a competition for best costume, the winner being awarded with a voucher for the Church Café which was generously provided by the venue.

Sustainability Day

The Sustainability Society held Sustainability Day on 17th October 2023, dedicated to promoting more sustainable practices in our everyday lives around our wardrobe and shopping habits. Blackhall students were invited to bring pre-loved clothes for a clothes swap in Vanilla Cafe to refresh their wardrobe. Aedin Twamley, a fifth generation tailor also held a talk focused on proper clothing care which was followed by a screening of the documentary, ‘Fashion Reimagined’ in which the challenges of sustainable fashion in the current industry are explored.

Strictly Blackhall

One of the biggest nights of the year for the Law School, Strictly Blackhall in aid of Barretstown and the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, presented by the Law Society and sponsored by William Fry took place in the Talbot Hotel. In the run-up to the event, 22 current and previous PPC trainee solicitors spent 6 weeks training and learning routines choreographed by the GWA (Girls with Attitude) dance company. They all took to the stage on the night with their fabulous footwork in genres such as jazz and ballroom to impress the audience and judges, which included Dublin based performer and dancer, Emily Roddy along with Law Society’s very own Ruth Tracey and Donna O’Reilly. It was a very close competition and Jessica Mackey (Matheson) and Aoife Hardy (A&L Goodbody) were crowned Strictly Blackhall champions after setting the night alight with their salsa routine
