Background

Several colleagues from the Afghanistan Independent Bar Association – which the IBA established – have contacted the IBA with pleas to assist with evacuation. The IBA has been working to help with the evacuation process for the President of the Bar, Ruhullah Qarizada, listed colleagues and their families

The process involves much bureaucracy and is slow. Emails have been received from those listed to say that their funds for day-to-day existence are running very low. They are embarrassed to write such messages but require financial assistance for general sustenance for their families and to keep their mobile phones operative so that they remain connected to the IBA and the world outside of their country at large.

The IBA is asking lawyers worldwide to donate whatever amount is possible to an assistance fund for the wellbeing of these colleagues and their families.
