Resources

Many of the Law Society’s services and supports are very relevant for the in-house or public sector solicitor.

Public affairs and lobbying information

Obligations under the Regulation of Lobbying Act 2015 came into effect on 1 September 2015 and oblige those undertaking ‘lobbying activities’, where applicable, to publicly register such instances. Useful information on the Act for practitioners is available on the Public Affairs page.

Tailored job alerts

The Law Society’s dedicated careers site, legalvacancies.ie, offers a free job alert email service. Practitioners can sign up for tailored emails when suitable roles are advertised, including in-house opportunities.

Training opportunities

Some upcoming courses provided by Law Society Professional Training and the Law Society Diploma Centre are particularly useful for in-house practitioners.

  • The Diploma Centre’s annual MOOC (Massively Open Online Course) for 2017 will address employment law. This free online course covers key changes in the field, including social media and the workplace, global pressure on employment rights, and equality legislation. Find out more about the 2017 employment law MOOC.
  • The Intellectual Property and Data Protection Committee, in collaboration with Law Society Professional Training, will host a seminar offering a practical overview and introduction to the provisions of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). The GDPR, which aims to strengthen and unify data protection within the EU, will have major ramifications for organisations processing or storing personal information. Book the 8 June GDPR seminar.
