Aims and Objectives
The aim of this conference is to provide practitioners with an overview of recent and on-going developments in Conveyancing practice. The objective is to equip Conveyancing practitioners with the necessary practical knowledge to embrace recent and future changes and developments. The seminar is designed in collaboration with members of the Conveyancing Committee of the Law Society.

Dr. Gabriel Brennan, Course Manager, Law Society of Ireland
Dr. Gabriel Brennan has been involved in the provision of legal education for over twenty years. Gabriel practiced with Abercorn Solicitors before joining the Law Society’s Law School as a Course Manager with responsibility for the design and delivery of numerous property and skills related courses. She has been a member of the Law Society Conveyancing Committee since 1997 and is a member of the Property Registration Authority eRegistration Project Board. She is also a member of the Society’s eConveyancing Task Force, acts as Senior Advisor to the eConveyancing Project and chairs the eSignatures Working Group. Gabriel has written and edited numerous course texts and published many articles. She is author of Ground Rents: A Practitioner’s Guide published by Thomson Round Hall and The Impact of eConveyancing on Title Registration; A Risk Assessment published by Springer International. 


Deirdre Fox, Principal, Deirdre Fox & Associates Solicitors, Co Wicklow
Deirdre qualified as a solicitor in 1993. She practiced in Cork for a number of years post qualification and in 1996 joined the fulltime teaching staff in the Law School with overall responsibility for Landlord and Tenant and Conveyancing. In 1997 she took up a position as Head of Conveyancing in the Legal Department of Bord Telecom Eireann (as it then was) where she remained until 2006, when she left to set up her own practice, Deirdre Fox & Associates. She is a member of the conveyancing committee and a contributor to the Conveyancing Manual. 

Michael Walsh, Partner, ByrneWallace, Dublin
Michael is the Head of Property at ByrneWallace. Michael is an accomplished practitioner with extensive experience in a broad range of real estate matters. Michael has been a regular contributor for over ten years to the Law Society's Continuing Professional Development and Diploma programmes.  He is a contributing author to the Law Society's "Complex Conveyancing" manual. Michael has been a member of the Law Society’s Conveyancing Committee since 2015 and he is the convener of the Law Society’s Pre-Contract Title Investigation Task Force.

Joe Thomas, Partner, O’Reilly Thomas, Drogheda
Joe’s particular area of expertise lies in Property and Mediation. Joe has extensive experience of acting for developers, commercial and private clients in the area of conveyancing. Joe regularly lectures and tutors at CPD events nationwide and in the Law Society on the subjects of Conveyancing, Landlord & Tenant and Mediation. He has also acted as internal examiner on conveyancing in the Law School. Joe is a member and former chair of the Conveyancing Committee of the Law Society. Joe regularly acts as an expert witness in conveyancing matters. Joe has written and been published on both conveyancing and mediation. Joe regularly acts as Mediator and Arbitrator in property disputes.

Patrick Sweetman, Partner, Matheson, Dublin
Patrick Sweetman is former head of the Commercial Property Department at Matheson.  He is a longstanding member of the Conveyancing Committee of The Law Society. Patrick has acted for a number of leading developers in Ireland, as well as receivers, banks, NAMA, and inward investors.  He has advised on many planning applications, appeals and judicial reviews, and environmental issues arising on the acquisition, development and disposal of land. He has lectured regularly on property, planning and environmental matters for The Law Society. 

Patrick Dorgan, Partner, Ronan Daly Jermyn, Cork
Patrick Dorgan is a Partner in the Property and Real Estate Group of Ronan Daly Jermyn, having joined the firm after many years with another well-known practice. He is a former chair of the Conveyancing Committee of the Law Society and has lectured in conveyancing in the Law Society's Law School and speaks at seminars on property law and practice. He is a past President of the Law Society. He is frequently engaged as an expert witness on conveyancing matters. He is the Chair of the Law Society’s eConveyancing Implementation Board, tasked with the development of and transition to digital conveyancing over the next few years.
