Get updated guidance on meeting your CPD requirements for 2018.

Key requirements

One of the most common concerns with practitioners regarding their CPD requirements is finding CPD to suit their needs. The scheme offers some flexibility in this regard.

Key requirements are as follows for 2018:

  • The total CPD points required for a solicitor holding a Practising Certificate for the entire practice year is 20 CPD points
  • Of this, the solicitor must have a minimum 2 Regulatory Matters points and 3 Management and Professional Development Skills points
  • Where applicable, the Regulatory Matters CPD points increases to 3 points to include at least 2 points Accounting and Anti-Money Laundering Compliance.

Earning CPD

You can earn CPD points in different ways, including:

  • An online course.
  • Publishing relevant materials in a textbook, periodical or the Gazette.
  • Delivering training.

Bonus points

Generally one hour of training equals one CPD point. However, the CPD scheme is set up to reward and promote active learning. For this reason, one hour of active learning is rewarded with a bonus credit of 25% for activities involving active participation (e.g. role play).
