Firms can now register to use the new online portal for probate applications. One person from the firm is appointed as the “Lead Administrator” and that person registers the firm, then other users can be added. 

• Register on the Courts Portal

Registration with the Courts Service’s new unified case management system (UCMS) will extend in future to intestacy applications and other grants of representation. 

The portal is also being currently used for Circuit Court Family Law proceedings and the intention is that all dealings with the Courts Service will be via the portal in time.

Benefits of online applications

According to the Courts Service, the new online process offers the following efficiencies:

1. The information contained in the SA. 2 is exported to the application, saving you from having to input the information again and cutting down on errors and consequent delays. 
2. Documents such as the Statement of Truth of Executor (which replaces the Oath for Executor) are similarly generated internally, cutting down on typos or other errors.  
3. Solicitors who were involved in the test phase have found that they receive grants within ten working days of their application being finalised.

The Courts Portal is being rolled out across different areas of law and jurisdictions. In the next few years across Civil and Family Law, the Portal will allow for e-filing, e-serving, making e-payments and the collection of digital orders.
