Services to support Men’s Health

11/11/2024 16:50:07

The Law Society is here to support you through Men’s Health Awareness Month and beyond.

During Men’s Health Awareness Month, we are mindful of the challenges men can face when it comes to mental health. The Law Society offers a range of services to support solicitors’ wellbeing. We are making a particular call out to our male colleagues to take a positive step towards enhancing mental health this November!

Need to talk?

While it is changing, some men can still find it difficult to speak openly about their personal and professional wellbeing. Old fears and indeed tropes can still linger, particularly among senior colleagues, about staying stoic as a man. The Law Society Elephant in the Room sculpture, Themis, named after the Greek goddess of law and justice, is currently on display in Blackhall Place and serves as a reminder to men and to women of the value of open conversations in our workplaces - and across the legal community.

Psychotherapy for solicitors

All solicitors are encouraged to reach out to LegalMind, an independent therapeutic service subsidised by the Law Society and provided by Clanwilliam Institute. Depending on location, it can be extended to include partners who wish to do some couples work and/or family therapy. It’s also open to trainees who have returned to the office after completing their PPC course.

No one needs to wait until they are experiencing burnout or in a crisis to engage with LegalMind. Men gain tremendously both personally and professionally from engaging in psychotherapy and there’s never been a better time to try it!
