Reminder: Credit Union accounts, nominations and funeral payments
The Law Society's Probate Committee has issued a reminder to practitioners regarding restrictions that apply to Credit Union accounts.

The nomination amount for a Credit Union account is €27,000 and the provision for small payments on death is €18,000 – see March 2024 Law Society article.
Where a Credit Union account has been nominated, any balance cannot be the subject of a small payment – see July 2024 Law Society article.
Under legislation related to Credit Unions, it is not possible for the directors of a Credit Union to pay the funeral director out of the account of a deceased member prior to a grant of representation being produced.
