Legal Aid concerns
A delegation from the Law Society will meet with senior officials from the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration this Thursday, 5 March.
The meeting will be attended by Law Society Director General Mark Garrett, Director of Policy Brian Hunt, Criminal Law Committee chair Shane McCarthy and Criminal Law Committee vice chair Amanda Connolly.
The Law Society requested the meeting after the plan was announced last week by Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration Jim O’Callaghan.

The Law Society issued a press statement in response to the proposal after it was announced. In the statement, we highlighted our deep concerns about the proposed move towards a fixed fee that does not take into account the indeterminate length of case proceedings and the work involved.
