News

The in-house sector is expected to make up close to 30% of the profession within a few years. In the November 2024 Gazette, Mary Hallissey speaks to Alison Bradshaw, chair of the Law Society’s busy In-House and Public Sector Committee.

The European Company Lawyers Association (ECLA) is offering a range of courses through its Corporate Counsel Academy designed to provide unique and valuable insights to European corporate lawyers. Issues covered include AI for In-House Counsel, Drafting International Contracts, Advanced Contract Drafting and Legal Design for Contracts.

In the latest Gazette, three solicitors who have made the move to dynamic business roles - Connor Stafford (SMBC Aviation Capital), Ruth McCarthy (Fexco) and Colm Kincaid (Central Bank of Ireland) talk about their transition and how they navigated this career shift.

  • On Friday, 22 November, Director General, Mark Garrett, will be joined by panellists including Pat Leahy (Political Editor, The Irish Times), Sarah Carey (Columnist, The Irish Independent) and Dr Brian Hunt (Director of Policy, Law Society of Ireland) for an election special, discussing how issues of justice and law reform have featured in the campaign.   • On Thursday, 12 December, join Director General, Mark Garrett and Ibec CEO, Danny McCoy, reflecting on the election and looking to the future. Danny will offer insights on leadership from a career at the heart of Irish economic development. Book online

Training

Applications are open for the spring 2025 Diploma in In-House Practice. This course is designed to provide in-house lawyers or aspiring in-house lawyers with a comprehensive understanding of the varied, challenging, and stimulating work that confronts those working in business and in the public sector.

A range of Law Society Professional Training and Law Society Skillnet courses in late 2024 and early 2025 offer in-person, live online and online on-demand CPD courses, designed by solicitors for solicitors.. Topics covered include project management, negotiation, time management, an analysis of common law and civil law in the EU, and much more.
