Far removed from the glamour of courtroom dramas, the Chief State Solicitor’s Office provides a vital, if often unsung, service. It delivers critical legal advice, litigation, and transactional services that keep the wheels of Government turning smoothly.
Reading rev-up
The Law Society Library has expanded its solicitor services with ProView, a Thomson Reuter’s eBook platform. This web-based application is supported on most browsers and can be used on desktops, laptops, mobiles and offline. There’s access to all 41 Irish titles available from Round Hall too. Registration is free for Law Society members and students, with priority sign up for in-house solicitors.
Renewal deadline
Applications are open for the 2026 Practising Certificate (PC) Renewal. Completed applications with payments must be received by the Law Society by 1 February 2026.
Talkin’ about your Generative AI
The Law Society recently published guidance for solicitors on the ethical and responsible use of generative AI, including potential uses and limitations. Access a range of resources to help you use AI effectively and responsibly in legal practice.
EPA support
The Law Society has welcomed publication of new guidance by the Decision Support Service (DSS) to help create an emergency Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA). Two documents are published on the DSS website.

The Diploma in In-House Practice starts on 24 February, 2026. It’s an excellent grounding of the work, designed to give in-house lawyers – or aspirants – a comprehensive understanding of the varied, challenging and stimulating tasks that confront those working in business and in the public sector.
