Learn how to download your digital PC after the renewal - and what to do if you missed the deadline.

The Practising Certificate renewal for 2025 has now completed, with just under 12,000 PC applications received and processed. To access your 2025 practising certificate simply log into your dashboard. Your certificate can be accessed and downloaded under “My Applications”.

Missed the deadline?

For any solicitor who missed the statutory PC deadline of 1 February 2025, you are reminded that it is professional misconduct and a criminal offence to practise without a practising certificate for any period. As such, it is imperative that you arrange to regularise the situation by applying and paying for a practising certificate immediately.

Any practising certificate applications received after 1 February 2025 will result in the practising certificate being dated the date of actual receipt by the Registrar of Solicitors, rather than 1 January 2025. There is no legal power to allow any period of grace under any circumstances whatsoever.

Application to backdate a PC

Solicitors with practising certificates dated after 1 February 2025, who have either provided legal services in January 2025 or acted as a principal of a firm, are required to make an application to the President of the High Court to have their practising certificates backdated to 1 January 2025. The Law Society seeks its costs in relation to this matter in the amount of €350 per individual application. Further information on backdating practising certificates can be obtained from the Practice Regulation Section by emailing pc@lawsociety.ie.
