The Law Society Diploma Centre's Certificate in Charity Law, Trusteeship & Governance begins on 10 March.

The Certificate in Charity Law, Trusteeship and Governance delivers key knowledge for those in practice who advise charitable organisations, those working in the sector or those who hold positions on boards of organisation, or in a management capacity.

Delivered in partnership with The Wheel, Ireland’s national charity association, the course will equip practitioners and those working in the charity, community and voluntary sector with the necessary knowledge and skills to maintain integrity and uphold standards. Members with an interest in the area of charity governance or those already working in the sector will gain insight from our faculty of solicitors, barristers, accountants, and other professionals with expertise in the field of charity law. The course includes five interactive workshop sessions which are designed to encourage candidates to engage in problem-solving scenario questions with a tutor who has specialised knowledge of the subject area.

Starting on 10 March, the course has a very practical emphasis and course content is wide-ranging, including sessions on finance and fundraising, the Charities Regulator’s Charities Governance Code, the legal framework for charities in Ireland, and management, human resource and volunteer policies.

What will you learn?

On completion of the course, participants will have attained deep knowledge and insight into:

  • establishing a charity: legal structures & registration requirements;

  • governance codes and regulatory requirements;

  • managing risk;

  • managing finances;

  • board responsibilities;
