Additional Grant for Small Practices
Small legal practices outside major cities have another opportunity this year to receive a grant to fund a new trainee in their firm.
The Law Society has launched an additional competition for a Small Practice Traineeship Grant worth €25,000 to further support smaller practices and their local community.
PPC Hybrid
The competition is limited to applications proposing a training contract for a nominated FE-1 candidate who will attend the 2025 PPC Hybrid Course starting in December 2025. You can download the application form at the link below.
Who can apply?
Applications should include a training contract proposal to be submitted to the Law Society before 10 October 2025. To be considered, the training firm must:
- be located outside Dublin City and County, as well as outside the urban areas of Cork, Limerick and Galway;
- be a small practice, with five or fewer solicitors;
- follow the connected persons rule outlined in the Scheme;
- commit to paying the trainee at least the living wage (€14.80 per hour); and
- hire a trainee who will attend the PPC Hybrid course starting in December.
More information including the application form and testimonials from previous grant recipients can be viewed on the Small Practice Grant webpage.
About the grant
The €25,000 grant helps small firms take on trainee solicitors by easing financial pressures, while also providing aspiring solicitors with the opportunity to train locally without the need to relocate or give up paid employment.
Five grants were awarded earlier this year to firms in Counties Cork, Meath, Monaghan, Roscommon and Wicklow. The additional grant will be awarded through a separate competition.
